Electronic Fuel Injection System Of SR19-1

EFI is almost used in all commercial vehicles and student formula cars. ECU (electronic control unit) or ECM(electronic control module) serves as heart . The KTM’s 390 engine powering the SR19 uses a BOSCH ECM which uses BOSCH’s patented CAN Communication protocol. In early days, petrol engine uses carburetor for delivering fuel into the combustion chamber. A venturi section in the carburetor sucks the air for combustion while acceleration. Depending on throttle opening carburetor supply the fuel to the engine. But in EFI the ECU looks into all data like air temperature, air-pressure, throttle position, engine temperature collected from various sensors on the engine to accurately inject fuel into the combustion chamber using a solenoid activated injector.

This system, unlike the carburetor system, does not have a choke. It’s because the ECU knows the exact temperature of the engine and can change the amount of fuel that needs to be injected ( ie :when engine temperature is low it supplies a rich mixture in order to get the engine to operating temperature). EFI system can reduce pollution as it is more precise and accurate. OBD(On Board Diagnostics) port has all the data of various sensors. These ports are mandatory for every cars and can be found mostly under the steering wheel. Modern ECU’s controls many aid system like the traction control, stability control, wheelie control etc.
